Story Time: Candlelight Flickers (Run Away Dreidel and a Kwanzaa Celebration); McCracken County Public Library (555 Washington St., Paducah); 10 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.; free.
Join Ms. Retta, Bob Dog, and Ms. Cherri as they share with young and old alike in their special program of stories, puppets, and songs. Each program is designed for preschoolers and their caregivers. Tuesdays.

A Christmas Carol, Carson Center (100 Kentucky Ave., Paducah), 7 p.m., $20+ & $10 for children under 10 (fees not included).
When Charles Dickens wrote his “ghostly little tale” in 1843, he couldn’t know that A Christmas Carol would become one of the most beloved holiday traditions of all time. Graves County Public Library Story Hour (601 North 17th Street, Mayfield, KY), 10 a.m.-11 a.m., free.
Hear story books, sing silly songs, play games, make nifty crafts and eat goodies! Parents are invited to help children with the crafts and the refreshments. Please call the library at (270) 247-2911 to enroll your child. Every Thursday morning.

Kentucky Politics: Bombast, Burgoo and Bourbon, McCracken County Public Library (555 Washington St., Paducah)
7 p.m., free.
Time was, Kentucky politics was dominated by the three Bs: Bombast, Burgoo and Bourbon. Berry Craig begins this talk by examining each of these spicy ingredients in turn. He ends by relating a tale that combines all three and brings to mind the famous remark about Kentucky politics being “the damnedest.” After all, asks Craig, where else could a man running for governor drink too much, throw up in public and still get elected?

Based on the popular book by Barbara Robinson. The Herdman kids are the terror of the neighborhood. When they decide to be in the neighborhood church pageant so they can get free treats, they turn the whole church upside down and in the process teach everyone about the true meaning of Christmas.
