Monday, August 3
Book Ends Book Club, Graves County Public Library (601 N. 17th St., Mayfield, KY), 5:30 p.m., free.

Tuesday, August 4
Story Hour, Marshall County Public Library: Calvert City branch (23 Park Road, Calvert City, KY), 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., free.
Children ages 4-6. Your child will enjoy stories and fun with Ms. Kelly & other children. During this hour, your child will read exciting books, play fun games, and make crafts too! Story Hour is a great opportunity for your child to meet new friends and be introduced to the world of books and reading at an early age. We strive to promote life-long readers and library users!

Mayfield Writing and Public Speaking Group, Graves County Public Library (601 North 17th Street, Mayfield, KY), 6:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., free. Every Tuesday.

Wednesday, August 5
Mother Goose Story Time, Marshall County Library: Benton branch (1003 Poplar Street, Benton, KY), 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., free.
A 30-minute program for 3-year-olds. All children should be accompanied by an adult. Mother Goose is a program in which your child will participate in activities geared towards young readers. It will include books, games, and crafts. This is a great way to introduce your child to the world of reading!

Graves County Public Library Story Hour (601 North 17th Street, Mayfield, KY), 10 a.m.-11 a.m., free.
Hear story books, sing silly songs, play games, make nifty crafts and eat goodies! Parents are invited to help children with the crafts and the refreshments. Please call the library at 247-2911 to enroll your child. Every Thursday morning.

Thursday, August 6
The Role of African Americans in the Civil War, McCracken County Public Library (555 Washington St., Paducah), 7 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., free.
Susan B. Hawkins, park ranger at Fort Donelson National Battlefield in Dover, Tenn., shares untold stories of Fort Donelson from 1862-1866. She highlights African American soldiers who joined the US military at regional Civil War forts, as well as the Freedmen's camp that developed around the Union fort. She describes what life may have been like for the former slaves, and the numerous connections between the Union forts in Paducah and in Fort Donelson.

Friday, August 7
Pamela Whinnery Book Signing, Culpepper Place (2121 New Holt Rd., Paducah), 2:30 p.m., free.
Pamela Whinnery is signing copies of Favorite Recipes of Kentucky Celebrities. Come get your signed copy of this famous cookbook. The recipes are compiled from Kentucky celebrities such as Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus, Naomi Judd, and Dwight Yoakam, to name a few! Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sales of the cookbooks will go to Paducah Cooperative Ministry. It's a good book, for a good cause! West Kentucky Christian Writers' Group, Concord UMC (brick house/office behind church, 5178 Hinkleville Rd., Paducah), 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., free.

Be Creative @ Your Library, Calloway County Public Library (710 Main Street, Murray, KY), sessions at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., free (but registration is required).
Participants must choose one session and participate in that session for the duration of the program. Participants can NOT switch sessions from week to week. All programs are filled on a first come, first served basis. Registration will continue until sessions are filled. To register please return a completed form to the library. NO registration will be taken over the phone nor by fax.

June 9 through ?
Library Toddlers, Calloway County Public Library (710 Main Street, Murray, KY), 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., free (but registration required).
The Library Toddlers program introduces group interaction and features a story, music, and toy time.
