Connie Alexander of Teacher Quality Institute of Murray State University will conduct this one hour professional development session. She will help guide teachers in new ways to present material from To Kill a Mockingbird, as well as sharing valuable resources and facilitating writing activities related to the book. She will also provide teachers with details on how to engage students on an exciting writing contest about To Kill a Mockingbird. This event is open to the public. Book club leaders and teachers are encouraged. Door Prizes and refreshments will be available.

"The Houses of Alben Barkley" with Steve Gabany, McCracken County Public Library (library meeting room, 555 Washington St., Paducah), 7 p.m., free.
This interesting discussion led by Gabany, author of the recent 2nd edition Historic Architecture of Paducah & McCracken County, will cover several homes and buildings associated with the Veep. He will trace the rich architectural history of the buildings using computer graphics. Steve Gabany and his wife Carol moved to Paducah three years ago as part of the Artist Relocation Program. They completed the renovation of the "Sebree House", 6th and Madison, which serves as an art studio and bed and breakfast. 48 Hour Film Project Screenings, Maiden Alley Cinema (112 Maiden Alley, Paducah), 7 p.m., $5 general admission.
The 48 Hour Film Project is a wild and sleepless weekend in which pre-registered teams make a movie—write, shoot, edit and score it—in just 48 hours. On Friday night, the teams get a character, a prop, a line of dialogue and a genre, all to include in their movie. 48 hours later, the movie must be complete. If it isn't received by 7:30 on Sunday evening, then it cannot be considered for the top prize. The City Winner will be screened at Filmapalooza, the official 48HFP Awards Weekend. In 2008, some 30,000 filmmakers made films in 70 cities. This year, we're even bigger, with filmmakers around the world taking the challenge to make a film in just 48 hours.
